Stability Evaluation and Hedonic Test of Lip Cream Kayu Secang Ethanol Extract (Caesalpinia sappan L.)

Colors are an important part of lip cream formulations. Using harmful dyes like Rhodamine B is carcinogenic and may lead to health problems like kidney failure and liver damage. Sappan wood contains braziliin pigment, which may served as a natural colorant. This study aims to obtain the best formulation of lip cream preparation from ethanol extract of sappan wood through physical stability test and hedonic test. Lip cream was developed through three distinct formulation of ethanol extract concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15%. Physical stability test includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability and adhesion test. The physical stability tests were conducted before and after the cycling test at 40 ? for 24 hours followed by a temperature of 4? for 24 hours for 12 days. Organoleptic observation results produced red lip cream. The homogeneity test of FI, FII, FIII showed homogeneous compositions, the pH test of the 3rd formula had a pH value of 5, good spreadability and adhesion. The results of the paired sample t-test statistical test of the sample did not change before and after the cycle. Formula third (FIII) gave better results than FII and FI. Organoleptically, lip cream FIII is red in color, thick cream texture, strawberry aroma as corigen odoris. The spreadability of FIII averaged (3.12±0,1303) cm, stickiness (10,80±0,8366) seconds and was stable at 4? and 40? storage.References
